Strength Is Practiced

part one

  Strength is Practiced

So you say you want to be in the entertainment business, but you don’t know where to start. The first thing you can do for yourself is go get training in whatever discipline you’re interested in. Many times the training is free or may be very affordable.

For example, many theater companies have education wings or have some form of apprenticeship program that you can take advantage of. In Philadelphia, a few of the musicians that I know teach at the Clef Club for the opportunity to have space where they can shed as well as make some side coin.

Whatever your craft is, you need to find the people that do it and take a class or do some hands on work related to the field. Everything, begins and ends with training. The thing about entertainment is there is always something new to learn.

As an artist you always want to be evolving. So, when you’re not on stage, on film, television or social media performing, you’re training. This is the way that you set yourself apart. While others try to coast on their talent you continue to grow through your work ethic.

The crafts teach us how to gain control over what we’re doing. Studying only gives you mastery over giving an order to things, no matter how opposite or odd the combination and making them into something that no one has conceived before. As you work and train, you’ll find that your artistry grows and from there you can begin to chart your path.

Until next time, I’m Andre Jones, on Strength is practiced…
